Christ in You, The Hope of Glory

Recently I've been learning a lot about the hope that we have in Christ and about persevering in the face of persecution. This never became clearer to me than when we did a self-study through the book of Philippians. If there is one man besides Jesus who knew what true persecution was, it was the apostle Paul. I found myself reading through chapter 1 of Philippians where Paul speaks of being in chains for Christ. I started imagining what it must have been like to be Paul and be imprisoned in Rome after everything else that had happened to him. Where did he get the strength to carry on? How could he continue to speak about joy in suffering? How could he go on preaching Christ when that is the “crime” he was arrested for? My 1st attempt at an answer to these questions was a lot more like a Q and A but as I rounded some of the edges, a story of sorts emerged. It was a lot shorter the 1st time I wrote it but after a week and a half or so of work and many revisions, this is what it has become. The good thing about this is that I had the liberty to word things in new ways to really inspire any potential readers and myself but the great thing about this is that arranging it differently only made it more true in my life. I hope the truth that I am trying to speak through this can stir within you a deep longing for the one true God and help my Lord, Jesus Christ, to gain a further foothold in your life.

Imagine that you are Paul around 60-61 AD. You have been beaten, you have been imprisoned before, you have been shipwrecked twice, you have been stoned (and by the grace of God miraculously survived), multiple times you were given 39 lashes, and now you are imprisoned in Rome by your enemies all because you spoke about the messiah whom they killed. The same man who suffered a worse fate than any other. He also was lashed, beaten, ridiculed, persecuted, and eventually crucified. Ah, crucifixion, a fate that you fear and may soon share if your enemies have their way like they did with Jesus. In the eyes of the people, you have nothing left because he is dead. “Where is your savior now?” they ask. They mock you and ridicule you and you might feel lost if only you were alone.

But you are not alone. You know where your savior is, you know that he lives, and you know that your hope is found in the perfect Lamb of God. This hope is not a wanting or a wondering but a knowing.  This hope is a certainty over death. This hope is a promise of eternal life. This hope gives you strength. So now you sit, imprisoned. You repeat the words of the psalmist over and over again to yourself; “Yes my soul finds rest in God alone; my hope comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken (Psalm 62).” And you keep preaching the gospel to those who hate you most. You preach to everyone who will listen, everyone who comes to you, and even to the guards that put you there. They hate you for it. But maybe one is convinced by your testimony. Maybe if you persevere then you can one day stand before your savior and say, “I finished the race. I never yielded. One believed on account of me. I did your work to the bitter end. I love you.” And on that day, on that day, Christ will bestow unto you the crown of life that he has promised to those who love Him (James 1:12). And turning to you, he will say, “Welcome home my child. I have loved you since before the beginning of time. You truly are my own.”

This is your path. For you are the redeemed and your reward is hidden in Christ, not in this world. You have been called to something greater than yourself. It is a calling that you are most willing to suffer and die for. It is a calling that you don't deserve but is beyond your wildest dreams. You have been called to the work of God. You have been called to unconditional love. You have been called to Jesus Christ. This is your life. “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” (Colossians 1:27)

Cristo en ustedes, la esperanza de  gloria

Recientemente he estado aprendiendo mucho acerca de la esperanza que tenemos en Cristo y sobre la perseverancia en medio de la persecución. Esto nunca se hizo más claro para mí que cuando hicimos un autoestudio a través del libro de Filipenses. Si hay un hombre, además de Jesús, que sabía lo que era verdadera persecución, fue el apóstol Pablo. Me encontré leyendo el Capítulo 1 de Filipenses, donde Pablo habla de estar en cadenas por Cristo. Empecé a imaginar lo que debe haber sido ser Pablo y ser encarcelado en Roma, después de todo lo que le había sucedido. ¿De dónde sacó la fuerza para seguir adelante? ¿Cómo podía seguir hablando de la alegría en el sufrimiento? ¿Cómo podía seguir predicando a Cristo cuando ése es el "crimen" por el cual fue arrestado? Mi primera tentativa en una respuesta a estas preguntas es mucho más como un Q y A, pero como he redondeado algunos de los bordes, una historia de las clases surgió. Fue mucho más corta la primera vez que la escribí, pero después de una semana y media de trabajo y muchas revisiones, esto es en lo que se ha convertido. Lo bueno de esto es que he tenido la libertad de palabra para nombrar las cosas de nuevas maneras para inspirar realmente algún lector potencial y a mí mismo, pero lo bueno de esto es que la manera en diferente de organización sólo lo hizo más cierto en mi vida. Espero que la verdad que estoy tratando de hablar a través de esto se agite en su interior un profundo anhelo hacia el Dios verdadero y ayudar a mi Señor Jesucristo, para estar aún más presente en su vida.

Imagine que usted es Pablo alrededor del 60-61 DC. Usted ha sido golpeado, ha estado encarcelado anteriormente, ha naufragado dos veces, usted ha sido apedreado (y por la gracia de Dios milagrosamente sobrevivió), varias veces le dieron 39 latigazos, y ahora está encarcelado en Roma por sus enemigos, todo porque usted habló sobre el Mesías a quien ellos mataron. El mismo hombre que sufrió un destino peor que cualquier otro. Él también fue azotado, golpeado, ridiculizado, perseguido y finalmente crucificado. Ah, la crucifixión, un destino que temes y que pronto puedas compartir si tus enemigos se salen con la suya, como lo hicieron con Jesús. A los ojos de la gente, no te queda nada, ya que Él está muerto. "¿Dónde está tu salvador ahora?", se preguntan. Ellos se burlan de ti y te ridiculizan y es posible que te sientas perdido si realmente estuvieras solo.

Sin embargo, no estás solo. Usted sabe dónde está su salvador, usted sabe que El vive, y usted sabe que tu esperanza se encuentra en el perfecto Cordero de Dios. Esta esperanza no es un querer o una pregunta, sino un saber. Esta esperanza es una certeza sobre la muerte. Esta esperanza es la promesa de la vida eterna. Esta esperanza te da fuerza. Así que ahora te sientas, encarcelado. Usted repite las palabras del salmista una y otra vez a sí mismo: " Sólo en Dios halla descanso mi alma; de él viene mi esperanza. Sólo él es mi roca y mi salvación; él es mi protector y no habré de caer. (Salmo 62)" Y sigues predicando el evangelio a los que más te odian. Usted predica a todo el que quiera escuchar, a todo el que viene a ti, e incluso a los guardias que lo pusieron allí. Ellos te odian por eso. Pero tal vez uno está convencido de tu testimonio. Tal vez si perseveras, entonces puede que un día estés ante tu salvador y puedas decir: "Yo terminé la carrera. Nunca me rendí. Uno cree que a causa de uno mismo. Hice el trabajo hasta el final. Te quiero." Y en ese día, en ese día, Cristo te otorgará la corona de la vida que ha prometido a los que a Él le aman (Santiago 1:12). Y volviéndose hacia ti, él dirá: "Bienvenido a casa hijo mío. Te he amado desde antes del principio del tiempo. Realmente eres mio. "

Este es tu camino. Porque tú has sido redimido y tu recompensa está escondida en Cristo, no en este mundo. Tú has sido llamado a algo más grande que tú  mismo. Es un llamamiento al cual estás dispuesto a sufrir y a morir. Es un llamado que no te mereces, pero está más allá de tus sueños más salvajes. Has sido llamado a la obra de Dios. Se te ha llamado a un amor incondicional. Has sido llamado a Jesucristo. Esta es tu vida. "Cristo en ustedes, la esperanza de gloria." (Colosenses 1:27)

YOU MUST HAVE WHAT HE IS (LIFE)
TO BE WHAT HE WAS (PERFECT)

For godliness is not the consequence of your capacity to imitate God, but the consequence of His capacity to reproduce Himself in you; not self-righteousness, but Christ-righteousness; the righteousness which is by faith ­ a faith which by renewed dependence upon God releases His divine action, to restore the marred image of the Invisible God. It is not inactivity, but Christ-activity; God in action accomplishing the divine end through human personality - never reducing man to the status of a cabbage, but exalting man to the stature of king! "For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ" (Romans 5:17).

At first sight this might seem to offer to you the possibility of sinless perfection as the result of spiritual regeneration, but this is far from being the case; for it is only your faith and your obedience which allow Him to be in you now what He was then (perfect) - and you will be what He was then only to the degree in which you allow Him to be in you what He is now (perfect)!

All of the Father was available to all of the Son, because by His faith-love relationship, all of the Son was available to all of the Father, and this constituted His perfect manhood; and the availability of the Son to you will be in the degree of your availability to the Son, because of your faith-love relationship to Him!

USTED DEBE TENER LO QUE EL ES (VIDA)

SER LO QUE EL ERA (PERFECTO)

La piedad no es la consecuencia de su capacidad para imitar a Dios, sino la consecuencia de Su capacidad para reproducirse en ti, no la justicia propia, sino que la rectitud de Cristo, la justicia que es por la fe ¬ una fe que por la dependencia renovada en Dios libera su acción divina, para restaurar la empañada imagen del Dios invisible. No es la inactividad, sino la actividad de Cristo; Dios en acción cumplimiendo  el propósito divino a través de la personalidad humana - nunca reduciendo al hombre a la condición de un repollo, sino exaltando al hombre a la estatura del rey! "Pues si por la transgresión de uno solo reinó la muerte, mucho más reinarán en vida los que reciben la abundancia de la gracia y del don de la justicia mediante un solo hombre, Jesucristo." (Romanos 5:17).

A primera vista esto podría parecer una oferta a la posibilidad de la perfección sin pecado, como resultado de la regeneración espiritual, pero esto está lejos de ser el caso, porque es sólo su fe y su obediencia que le permiten a El ser en usted ahora lo que Él  fue en el pasado (perfecto) - y usted será lo que Él  era en el pasado sólo en la medida en que le permita a Él ser en usted lo que Él es ahora (perfecto)!

Todo lo que el Padre era estaba a disposición de todo lo que era el Hijo, porque por medio de su relación de fe-amor, todo lo que el Hijo era estaba a disposición de todo lo que el Padre era, y esto constituía Su perfecta humanidad, y la disponibilidad del Hijo para usted estará en el grado de su disponibilidad al Hijo, a causa de su  relación de fe-amor con Él!

I AM ­ THOU ART

It may be that your need is still that of a sinner seeking forgiveness; you need to be redeemed, and you are still trying to find your way back to God and godliness. Christ is saying to you now, as He said to His disciples of old in the Upper Room, after he was risen from the dead, "Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself" (Luke 24:39); in other words, "I AM - all that a guilty sinner needs! The wounds in My hands and My feet are the hall-marks of My Saviourhood; put your trust in Me, and I will save you!"

All you need to say to Him is this, "Lord Jesus - Thou art! For me - Just what I need! My Saviour and my Redeemer - for ever!"

You will be redeemed, and He will give you life; by the gift of His indwelling Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ. He will give you His Life, and this is what it means to "live in the Spirit"; but "If we live in the Spirit let us also walk in the Spirit: (Galatians 5:25), and this is what it means to "walk in the Spirit" ­ to take one step at a time, and for every new situation into which every new step takes you, no matter what it may be, to hear Christ saying your heart, "I AM!" - and then to look up into His face by faith and say, "Thou art! That is all I need to know Lord, and I thank Thee; for Thou art never less than adequate!"

True godliness leaves the world convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the only explanation for you, is Jesus Christ ­ to whose eternally unchanging and altogether adequate "I AM!" your heart has learned to say with unshatterable faith, "Thou art!"

YO SOY – TU ERES

Puede ser que su necesidad es todavía la de un pecador buscando el perdón, que hay que ser redimido, y usted todavía está tratando de encontrar su camino de regreso a Dios y la piedad. Cristo está diciendo a usted en este momento, como dijo a sus discípulos de la antigüedad en el Aposento Alto, después de haber resucitado de entre los muertos, "Mirad mis manos y mis pies, que soy yo mismo" (Lucas 24:39), en otras palabras, "Yo Soy - todo lo que necesita un pecador culpable! Las heridas en mis manos y mis pies son las marcas distintivas del hecho que yo soy El Salvador, pon tu confianza en mí, y Yo te salvaré!"

Todo lo que necesitas decirle es esto: "Señor Jesús - Tú Eres para mí - ¡Justo lo que necesito! Mi Salvador y Redentor -para siempre!"

Vas a ser redimido, y Él te dará  vida, por el don de Su Espíritu Santo que mora en nosotros, Jesucristo. Él te dará su vida, y esto es lo que significa "vivir en el Espíritu", pero "Si vivimos por el Espíritu, andemos también en el Espíritu: (Gálatas 5:25), y esto es lo que significa "andar en el Espíritu" para dar un paso a la vez, y en cada nueva situación en la que cada nuevo paso te lleva, no importa lo que sea, a escuchar a Cristo diciendo a tu corazón: "YO SOY" - y luego mirar a Su rostro por fe y decir: "Tú Eres! Eso es todo lo que necesito saber Señor, y te doy gracias, nunca, porque Tu Eres siempre lo adecuado "!

La verdadera piedad deja el mundo convencido más allá de toda sombra de duda, que la única explicación para usted, es Jesucristo, el cual es eternamente inmutable y totalmente adecuado "YO SOY!" tu corazón ha aprendido a decir con fe inquebrantable, "Tú eres!"

ETERNAL LIFE IS CHRIST

What is eternal life? Is it a place that you are going to when you are dead? Is it a peculiar feeling inside? If you were to ask a normal congregation, or any sort of Bible class or Sunday school in an evangelical church to define eternal life, you would be amazed at the strange answers you would get!

What is eternal life? When does it begin? I noticed just the other day, in a hospital chapel where I was speaking, a tablet on the wall in memory of one of the previous chaplains, and in giving the date of his death it said, "He entered into eternal life." Is that true if he was a Christian? Is it right to imply, as did that tablet on the wall, that eternal life begins when a man is physically dead? No, indeed!

"And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life" (I John 5:11,12)

Jesus Christ and eternal life are synonymous terms, and eternal life is none other than Jesus Christ Himself, of whom it is written in John 1:4 ­ "In Him was life; and this life was the light of men." "If you have eternal life at all, it simply means that you have the Son, Jesus Christ ­ now! Jesus said, "I am the Way, I am the Truth, I am the Life" (John 14:6)

Eternal life is not a peculiar feeling inside! It is not your ultimate destination, to which you will go when you are dead. If you are born again, eternal life is that quality of life that you possess right now, at this very moment, in your own physical body, with your own two feet on the ground, and in the world TODAY! And where does this life come from? Of Him! He is that Life!

So if you have eternal life, it means that you have Somebody, Jesus Christ, and the life that you possess is of Him.

LA VIDA ETERNA ES CRISTO

¿Qué es la vida eterna? ¿Es un lugar al que se va a cuando estás muerto? ¿Es un sentimiento peculiar dentro de nosotros? Si se le preguntara a una congregación normal, o en cualquier clase de Biblia o en la escuela dominical en una iglesia evangélica para definir la vida eterna, usted se sorprendería de las respuestas extrañas que usted consigue!

¿Qué es la vida eterna? ¿Cuándo empezó? Me di cuenta el otro día, en una capilla del hospital donde yo estaba hablando, una placa en la pared en memoria de uno de los capellanes anteriores, y al dar la fecha de su muerte, dijo: "Él entró a la vida eterna." ¿Eso es verdad si él era un cristiano? ¿Es correcto dar a entender, como lo hizo la placa en la pared, que la vida eterna comienza cuando un hombre está físicamente muerto? No, por cierto!

"Y este es el testimonio: que Dios nos ha dado vida eterna y esta vida está en su Hijo: El que tiene al Hijo, tiene la vida: el que no tiene al Hijo de Dios no tiene la vida." (I Juan 5: 11,12)

Jesucristo y la vida eterna son términos sinónimos, y la vida eterna no es otro que el mismo Jesucristo, de quien está escrito en Juan 1:4 - "En él estaba la vida, y la vida era la luz de los hombres". "Si tenéis la vida eterna, simplemente significa que usted tiene al Hijo, Jesucristo - ahora! Jesús dijo:" Yo soy el camino, yo soy la verdad, yo soy la vida "(Juan 14:6)

La vida eterna no es un sentimiento peculiar dentro de nosotros! No es su destino final, al que vas a ir cuando estás muerto. Si usted ha nacido de nuevo, la vida eterna es esa calidad de vida que usted posee en este momento, en este mismo momento, en tu propio cuerpo físico, con sus dos pies en el suelo, y en el mundo HOY! Y de dónde viene esta vida? De Él! Él es esa vida!

Así que si tienes la vida eterna, significa que tienes a alguien, Cristo Jesús, y la vida que posees es de Él.

EXCHANGED LIFE

Christian living is not a method or technique; it is an entirely different, revolutionary principle of life. It is the principle of an exchanged life" not I, but Christ liveth in me" (Galatians 2:20).

This is all part of our Gospel - it is not the Gospel plus! We must not get our terminology wrong. To divorce the behavior of the Christian from the Gospel is entirely false and is not true to the Word of God, yet all too often such is the characteristic of gospel preaching.

I would like to explore with you what is the true spiritual content of our Gospel ­ not just heaven one day, but Christ right now! Christ in you, on the grounds of redemption ­ this is the Gospel! To preach anything less than this must inevitably produce "Evan-jellyfish" ­ folk with no spiritual vertebrae, whose faith docs not "behave!"

Do you remember what James says in his epistle? "As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead" (chapter 2:26). The "spirit" there means breath, and a body without breath is dead. Stop breathing ­ and folk will bury you! In other words, a living body breathes, and a living faith breathes, and a living faith breaths with divine action. A living faith breathes with the activity of Jesus Christ. That is why the Lord Jesus, in John 6:29, said, "This is the work of God, that ye believe on Him whom He hath sent."

That is the work of God. It is your living faith in the adequacy of the One who is in you, which releases His divine action through you. It is the kind of activity that the Bible calls "good works," as opposed to "dead works."

"Good works" are those works that have their origin in Jesus Christ - - whose activity is released through your body, presented to Him as a living sacrifice by a faith that expresses total dependence, as opposed to the Adamic independence (Romans 12: 1,2).

It is only the life of the Lord Jesus -- His activity, clothed with you and displayed through you, that ultimately will find the approval of God.

VIDA INTERCAMBIADA

La vida cristiana no es un método o técnica, sino que es un principio de vida  totalmente diferente, y revolucionario. Es el principio de una vida transformada "no vivo yo, mas vive Cristo en mí" (Gálatas 2:20).

Todo esto es parte de nuestro Evangelio – no se necesita algo mas que le acompañe! Debemos cuidar que nuestros términos sean los correctos. La separación del comportamiento de los cristianos del Evangelio es totalmente falso y no es fiel a la Palabra de Dios, sin embargo, con demasiada frecuencia, tal es la característica de la predicación del evangelio.

Me gustaría explorar con ustedes lo que es el verdadero contenido espiritual de nuestro Evangelio, no sólo el cielo algún día, sino que es Cristo ahora mismo! Cristo en nosotros, sobre la base de la redención, es el Evangelio! La predicacion de cualquier cosa menos que esto inevitablemente tiene que producir una "Evan-medusa", gente sin vértebras espirituales, cuya fe no documenta "comportarse"

¿Te acuerdas de lo que Santiago dice en su epístola? "Así como el cuerpo sin espíritu está muerto, así también la fe sin obras está muerta" (cap. 2:26). El "espíritu" ahí significa aliento, y un cuerpo sin aliento está muerto. Deja de respirar y la gente te va a enterrar! En otras palabras, un cuerpo vivo respira, una fe viva respira, y una fe viva respira la acción divina. Una fe viva respira con la actividad de Jesúcristo. Por eso, el Señor Jesús, en Juan 6:29, dijo: "Esta es la obra de Dios, que creáis en el que El ha enviado."

Esa es la obra de Dios. Es tu fe viva en la suficiencia de Aquel que está en nosotros, el cual libera su acción divina a través de ti. Es el tipo de actividad que la Biblia llama "buenas obras", en oposición a las "obras muertas".

"Buenas obras" son aquellas obras que tienen su origen en Jesucristo - cuya actividad se libera a través de su cuerpo, que se Le presentó como un sacrificio vivo por la fe que expresa la dependencia total, a diferencia de la independencia de Adán (Romanos 12: 1 , 2).

Es sólo la vida del Señor Jesús - Su actividad, vestida con usted y mostrada a través de ustede, que en última instancia encuentra la aprobación de Dios.
