There is something, which makes Christianity
more than a religion, more than an ethic, and more than the idle dream of the
sentimental idealist. It is this something, which makes it relevant to each one
of us right now as a contemporary experience. It is the fact that Christ Himself is the very life content
of the Christian faith. It is He who makes it "tick." "Faithful
is He who calls you, and also He will bring it to pass" (I Thessalonians
5:24). The One who calls you is the One who does that to which He calls you.
"For it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His
good pleasure" (Philippians 2:13). He is Himself the very dynamic of all
His demands.
Christ did not die simply that you might be
saved from a bad conscience, or even to remove the stain of past failure, but
to "clear the decks" for divine action. You have been told that
Christ died to save you. This is gloriously true in a very limited, though
vital sense. In Romans 5:10 we read, "For if while we were enemies we
were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having
been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life" The Lord
Jesus Christ therefore ministers to you in two distinct ways - He reconciles
you to God by His death, and He saves you by His life.
This, however, is but the beginning of the
story, " For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God
through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, (now an accomplished fact,) we
shall be saved (as a continuing
process) by His life" (Romans 5:10). The glorious fact of the
matter is this no sooner has God reconciled to Himself the man who has
responded to His call, than He re-imparts to him, as a forgiven sinner, the
presence of the Holy Spirit, and this restoration to him of the Holy Spirit
constitutes what the Bible calls regeneration, or new birth. Titus 3:5 and 6,
" He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in
righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration
and renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out upon us richly
through Jesus Christ our Savior"

MISMO EL CONTENIDO DE LA FE CRISTIANA

Hay algo, que hace que el
cristianismo sea más que una religión, más que una ética, y más que el sueño
vano de que el idealista sentimental. Es ese algo que hace que sea relevante
para cada uno de nosotros en este momento como una experiencia contemporánea.
Es el hecho de que Cristo mismo es el contenido de la vida misma de la fe
cristiana. Él es el que hace "tick". "Fiel es el que os llama,
el cual también lo hará" (I Tesalonicenses 5:24). El que los llama es el
que hace eso a lo que Él os llama. "Porque Dios es el que obra en vosotros
tanto el querer como el hacer, por Su buena voluntad" (Filipenses 2:13).
Él mismo es la dinámica misma de todas sus demandas.
Cristo no murió simplemente para que
usted sea salvado de una mala conciencia, o incluso para eliminar la mancha de
los fracasos del pasado, sino para "despejar el camino" para la
acción divina. Se les ha dicho que Cristo murió para salvarnos. Esto es
gloriosamente cierto en un sentido muy limitado, aunque vital. En Romanos 5:10
leemos: "Si cuando éramos enemigos, fuimos reconciliados con Dios por la
muerte de su Hijo, mucho más, estando reconciliados, seremos salvos por su
vida". El Señor Jesús Cristo ministra a usted de dos maneras distintas -
Él te reconcilia con Dios por medio de Su muerte, y Él te salva por su vida.
Sin embargo, esto no es más que
el comienzo de la historia, "si cuando éramos enemigos, fuimos
reconciliados con Dios por la muerte de su Hijo, mucho más, estando
reconciliados, (ahora un hecho consumado) seremos salvos (como un proceso
continuo) por su vida "(Romanos 5:10). El glorioso hecho de la cuestión es
esta - tan pronto como Dios ha reconciliado consigo al hombre que ha respondido
a su llamado, Él vuelve a impartir en
él, como un pecador perdonado, la presencia del Espíritu Santo, y esta
restauración con Él en el Espíritu Santo constituye lo que la Biblia llama regeneración,
o nuevo nacimiento. Tito 3:5 y 6, - "no por obras de justicia que nosotros
hubiéramos hecho, sino por su misericordia nos salvó, por el lavamiento de la
regeneración y por la renovación en el Espíritu Santo, el cual derramó en
nosotros abundantemente por Jesucristo Cristo nuestro Salvador. "
